Multi-Modal & Transit Planning

GO Transit Station at CIBC Square

CIBC Square is located at 81 Bay Street, in the City of Toronto; an area known as the “Railway Lands East”, previously known as “Block 2A”. The development is comprised of two office towers with approximately 3 million square feet of space integrated with a regional bus transit station for GO Transit.

Work at CIBC Square includes providing functional designs for the two-storey Metrolinx-GO bus terminal in addition to the layout and functional design for the below-grade parking garage, and detailing of vehicular signage and wayfinding. The location and supply of electric vehicle stations, bicycle parking spaces, carpool spaces, and other sustainability-focused transportation elements have also been part of BA’s work on the project. Advice on parking control and payment systems, integral to the operation and design of the garage for the combination of office, commercial, and casual users were also provided by BA Group.

Dundas West-Bloor Mobility Hub

BA Group was retained as part of a multidisciplinary team to complete a comprehensive study of the Dundas West-Bloor Mobility Hub in western Toronto on behalf of Metrolinx. The Dundas West-Bloor Mobility Hub is envisioned as a community focussed around a major transit station that provides significant levels of planned transit service adjacent to high residential and employment areas.

This Mobility Hub combines GO Transit, TTC and UP Express services with active transportation (e.g. walking and cycling), public realm improvements which are all connected seamlessly to create a neighbourhood where residents, employees and visitors can live, work, and play, within a transit-oriented environment.

BA Group provided transportation advisory services to the team's study, focused on improving how people come and go to, from, and around subway and GO Transit stations. We considered the site context, analyzed transit ridership implications of the Mobility Hub, reviewed existing and future transportation advancements and recommended pedestrian and public realm design improvements.

Canada Square

The Canada Square Redevelopment involves the complete transformation of Canada Square, located in the southwest quadrant of the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue West intersection, into an integrated mixed-use development. It contemplates generous public open spaces, transit infrastructure improvements, and five mixed-use buildings with non-residential, residential, and community space. A network of pedestrian walkways atop a major transportation hub will connect this site to the adjacent neighbourhood and enhance the site’s historic and regional significance.

The site is located on top of a true rapid transit interchange station – the intersection of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina) Subway. Additional area transportation infrastructure improvements (e.g. on-street bike lanes and enhanced pedestrian boulevards) through the redesign of Eglinton Avenue will significantly shift travel behaviour to reflect a transit-oriented neighbourhood that is seamlessly integrated.

Our work involved establishing key transportation pillars to guide the development of the site, multi-modal travel demand forecasting, and assessment, traffic operations review, design of parking and servicing facilities, and creation of a mobility framework that would address all phases of the proposed development.
