Brightwater, Mississauga

Port Credit West Village Partnership retained BA Group to provide urban transportation advisory services concerning a large-scale mixed-use development on 72 acres of the Port Credit waterfront in Mississauga. The proposed plan will develop the lands in a transit-supportive manner, with walkable streets and blocks and active transportation connections that enhance bicycle and pedestrian routes through the area. The road network was designed with reduced pavement widths and includes pedestrian and cycling mews running through the site, off-road multi-use trails, boulevard trails, and a transit loop that will function as a turning facility for future rapid transit on Lakeshore Road.

BA Group undertook several studies, including a Preliminary Review, Master Planning, and various Municipal Approvals processes, including the Plan of Subdivision and Rezoning for the overall site and Site Plan Approvals for the blocks that have proceeded so far.

Several measures were introduced to support transit and active transportation, including reduced parking provision and shared parking between the various uses on the site, shared loading facilities, bicycle parking, car share facilities, and real-time transit and travel information. A developer-provided shuttle to the Port Credit GO Station is also proposed to improve site connection to rapid transit and support reduced automobile ownership and use.

The Canadian Institute of Planners has recognized the Mississauga Brightwater Waterfront Master Plan with an Award in Planning for Healthy Communities. Brightwater represents the culmination of over ten years of collaborative planning and design to remediate the highly contaminated Imperial Oil lands along Mississauga's central waterfront.
