Anthony Yates P. Eng

Tony’s creative and collaborative approach to urban transportation planning and engineering has contributed to the success of land development projects around the world. He applies a unique holistic approach to integrating multi-modal urban transportation systems with other project objectives. His comprehensive knowledge of all facets of urban transportation planning, design, operations, and financing, as well as his ease of collaborating with clients and multi-disciplinary project teams, resulting in physical designs that strike exactly the right balance.

Tony draws on over 35 years of experience in public transit, parking, loading, pedestrian, cycling, and street-system planning and design, as well as on his association with many of the world’s leading architects and urban planners. His eclectic experience encompasses strategic sustainable transportation planning for three cities in northern China; establishing right-of-way needs for the Calgary Ring Road; station area design and traffic management during construction for the Sheppard Subway in Toronto; parking and traffic studies in support of shopping centres, office, and industrial buildings, and new residential communities in Ontario and Quebec; transportation planning for the Halifax Seaport waterfront redevelopment and cruise ship terminal; site selection studies for the Canadian National Soccer Centre; site planning for urban land development projects in North America, South America, Mexico, Europe, Russia and Asia; and resort, entertainment, health care, university and college campus planning across Canada.

Tony actively supports technical advancement within the firm and solutions for creating high-quality urban places. He is currently assisting Smart Commute to prepare guidelines for Transportation Management Associations in Ontario towards the implementation of transportation demand management measures relating to employer-provided shuttle bus service.
