When complete, this site will contain a parking garage, three towers, and an urban plaza. To reduce peak-hour single-occupant traffic, BA Group has developed operational and physical strategies including better bicycle parking and shower facilities, provision of car-share vehicles on-site, limiting parking supply, and PATH connections.
BA Group evaluated the travel characteristics of the employees at Nortel Networks head office site. These characteristics included such information as arrival and departure times, origin departure points, and mode of travel. We analysed this data and made recommendations to Nortel in methods to minimize single-auto travel and parking, including public transit and employer-provider shuttles.
BA Group was retained in 2006 to develop a guide for employees in the York Region to set up employer-provided shuttles (EPS). The guide was designed to be a step-by-step approach to evaluate, plan, and implement a shuttle service to assist in transportation demand management and to minimize parking requirements at business sites. The guide also contained information on legal and insurance issues, templates for planning and implementation, and several case studies of successful EPS services.
